Bye Bye Plastic 2022 Activity & Impact Report

Updated: Jul 12, 2023

After years spent researching and data-gathering, we’re so excited to finally share the stats from our 2022 (aka our first ever!) Activity and Impact report.

From entering the uncharted territories of web3 and launching our very own $BYEBYE token, to releasing our first ever compilation album featuring 14 inspiring eco-artists (and the world’s first bacteria-based (PHA) viny with itl!), it’s been a big year for BBP…

They say good things come in threes: and with 1 world-first product launch, our 1st major grant received and 1 micro-currency in 2022, who are we to argue?

In 2022, we welcomed > 4000 new followers across all social media platforms. Every new follower is an opportunity to broaden our plastic-free horizons, bringing us one step closer to future-proofing the music industry. We couldn’t do what we do without you!

In 2022, we salvaged 1.49 metric tonnes of plastic from the environment. That’s the global warming potential equivalent to producing 2244 beef burgers. This adds to our all-time plastic-saving total: 5.78 tonnes of plastics… in other words, 3115 beef burgers!

To delve into all the stats, find the complete report here. We could go on with a whole list of exciting accomplishments in 2022… but let’s sum it up with a few of our best bits!

We received our 501 (c) (3) status in the USA! This means your generous donations are now tax-exempt in the US of A too, helping us go even further on our plastic-free mission. Find out how you can support us here.

Getting out there and uniting green-hearted music lovers is what we do best at BBP and our worldwide Clean The Beat events continue to show us that we’re far from alone! This year we’ve hosted 3 musically-powered cleanups, with plenty more in the pipeline for 2023! Keep up to date here.

As a not-so-recent signatory, Bye Bye Plastic stands in solidarity with Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Global Commitment to the circular economy.

We’re proud to actively align ourselves with 7 out of 17 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and are continuously working to preserve our planet’s precious natural resources and services - to secure a better future for all of us.

2022 was undoubtedly a take-off year for BBP in the music industry, and we’re feeling more motivated than ever to collaborate with the big players in 2023 and beyond!

So, what next?

Our goals for 2023 are bold: to compensate team air travel via robust carbon removal projects, to introduce annual digital clean ups and to grow our plastic impact 10-fold.

Achievable? Of course!

We’re committed to helping DJs, artists and producers create plastic-free events worldwide, where plastic cups, straws, bottles & way more (cause yes, there’s much more!) will be a thing of the PAST.

We know that collective action is the solution, and sustainable music events are not just a phase! Will you join the plastic-free revolution?
