WE ADDRESS INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS TO
Event organisers are more powerful than they think. Besides throwing sick parties, they have the opportunity to create new realities through the collective spaces they're designing and animating...
And those realities can shape a better future. Bye Bye Plastic works to guide these music industry professionals to lead by example while shaping stages to become spaces for social connection.
We consult, guide and navigate the plastic-free paradigm.
HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY KILOS TO LOSE IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH YOU WEIGHT ?
The Issue We Are Tackling
With this, we’re making a statement: the music industry had no available baseline data for clubs, festivals, agencies and individuals to understand where we are at with respect to plastics consumption… until now. Bye Bye Plastic is currently working hard at creating some baseline plastic consumption measurements for the music industry, so we can start a dialogue, set collective goals and track our progress together.
We did some preliminary research, and this is what we found:
In one year (open for 110 days),
the average 2 000 capacity club generates around
TONNES OF WASTE
TONNES OF CO2
and that's only on plastic cups, straws, and water bottles
THIS IS THE SAME AS DRIVING TWICE AROUND THE EARTH IN A CAR
In the course of one day,
an average 50 000 person festival generates around
TONNES OF CO2
TONNES OF WASTE
also only on plastic cups, straws, and water bottles.
THIS IS EQUIVALENT TO THE PRODUCTION OF OVER 12 000 BEEF BURGERS.
Of course, every business is different and the Plastic Footprint Calculator, a tool we have in our hearts to launch later this year, will provide festivals, clubs and individuals with accurate data, as well as enable them to monitor their plastic footprint. This way, everyone can better track their own, and the collective progresses.
We know how arduous it can be to start a plastic-free track with so little free time available, and so much misinformation floating around. And let's be honest, to each their own: events are good for parties, labels are good at growing musicians, and tour managers are good at planning artists wild adventures. That's why you can leave the plastic-free part(y) to the pros (that's us).
