Electrifying basslines, trailblazing transitions, and an experimental spirit that breaks all the rules: here at Bye Bye Plastic we’re on a mission to transform the music industry.
Powered by innovation and a global network of changemakers, collectively we’re grooving to the rhythm of a new system, as we bring a radical wave of energy to every dancefloor!
But there’s one “new” thing that’s throwing our beat off track, messing with our music industry and causing chaos for the planet: plastics.
December is notoriously a time for relentless consumption. But with a sprinkle of conscious spirit, together we can transform our habits for a better tomorrow, one plastic-free step at a time! Ready to dance towards conscious giving this holiday season? Look no further than our sustainable gift-giving guide to nail your plastic-free Christmas 🎄
Leading the charge on plastics has never been more essential, and we’re here to show you how music can lead the shift towards one global #PlasticFreeParty: across 9 key beats of change!
On the ninth day of Christmas…🎶
There are 9 planetary boundaries that underpin Bye Bye Plastic’s drive towards a circular music industry, where plastic straws are a no-go and the crunch of plastic cups is a thing of the past.
Mirroring the way an eco-rider supports our music ecosystem to thrive, these planetary boundaries keep our Earth systems afloat.
And it relies on a conscious human collective to mitigate irreversible cascades across each of these interwoven systems: climate change, biodiversity loss, ocean acidification, ozone depletion, atmospheric aerosol pollution, freshwater use, biogeochemical flows of nitrogen and phosphorous, land-system change, and…release of novel entities (enter, plastics).
Over 500 million tons of plastics are produced annually, yet only nine percent are recycled worldwide. Every plastic item we buy this festive season will contribute to environmental problems on a global scale.
“The impacts of plastics in the Earth system are complex and interconnected, and this work clearly demonstrates how plastics are acting to destabilise the system”
Sarah Cornell, co-author: 'Plastics pollution exacerbates the impacts of all planetary boundaries'
There is now clear evidence that plastic pollution worsens the impact of all nine planetary boundaries.
"Most plastics are made up of thousands of different chemicals. Many of them, such as endocrine disruptors and forever chemicals, which pose toxicity and harm to ecosystems and human health”
Patricia Villarrubia-Gómez, lead author: 'Plastics pollution exacerbates the impacts of all planetary boundaries'
Like the plastics that disrupt the future of people, planet and party, Bye Bye Plastic is a proudly disruptive organisation striving towards a music industry where we can dance to the beat of the #PlasticFreeParty!

Bye Bye Plastic’s vision for 2025 and beyond 🚀
Bye Bye Plastic Foundation sparked out of the belief that our music industry deserves better. And the belief that music has the power to create a culture of positive impact.
Plastic pollution remains one of the major, and most undermined threats to our planet and our dancefloors as we know them. Our aim is simple: eliminate single-use plastics in the music industry in order to restore Earth balance.
